More the Merrier: Thank you for supporting our seniors!

02 February 2023

With the 2022 festive season all wrapped up, we’re proud to share the impact of another successful year of our More the Merrier campaign.

With one in four Australians suffering from problematic loneliness, the holiday season can leave many feeling alone and downhearted. The ambition of our More the Merrier campaign is to inspire individuals, communities and organisations to support those who are alone at Christmastime.

Every year, the Feros Care team organises special activities to connect with some of the loneliest people in our communities - our treasured seniors - and help them feel cared about, valued and supported. Our vision is that the more people we connect with, the merrier we will all be.

We hand-deliver special hampers and spend time with each senior. From October to December, we encourage people to write Christmas cards and letters that we collate and send out to seniors who are isolated. Schools, businesses, Duke of Edinburgh participants, community groups, families and individuals all join our campaign. And on Christmas Day, special Feros Care helpers make Christmas phone calls.

These small actions help create a more connected Christmas for the one in three Australians who experience loneliness during the festive season.

This year, our elves:

  • Delivered more than 100 hampers
  • Sent over 350 Christmas cards
  • Made 36 phone calls on Christmas Day
  • Sponsored a special Christmas lunch for lonely seniors in the Illawarra

Our More the Merrier campaign was entirely sponsored by members of our community, business partners and local organisations that are passionate about making a difference in the lives of the people who really need it.

And the results speak for themselves!

Based on the feedback from the elves who delivered our hampers, the campaign made a world of difference.

“Desmond loved his hamper! He said it was a beautiful surprise, and a great addition to his Christmas.”

“A very grateful (and teary) Peter was so appreciative of his hamper. It was a tough Christmas this year for him as it is his first at home alone and apart from his true love who has dementia and is in aged care facility.”

“Hamper delivered to Margaret.... she was so very grateful.”

“We all adore Gwenny, our beautiful 96-year-old client. She had a warm smile as she opened her gift, putting each item on the table and so appreciating the lovely contents.”

It truly takes a village of caring people to pull everything together – from those who organise and pack the hampers to those who hand-write the Christmas cards.

A special shout-out to Ben, a high school student from Melbourne. Ben has chronic fatigue, but he wanted to get his volunteer hours up for the Duke of Edinburgh program. He single-handedly created 300 cards complete with personalised messages, jokes and stickers – for a total of 50 hours of work!

Thank you so much to all our More the Merrier donors and those who inspired suppliers and friends to donate. We couldn’t have done it without you!
