Feros Care and NAIDOC Week: We’re ready to Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
04 July 2022
Feros Care acknowledges all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as First Nations people and Custodians of the oldest living culture.
We recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community, and pay respect to all Elders past, present and emerging.
At Feros Care, we are proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week.
It’s an opportunity for us all to embrace our First Nations cultures and histories, and to participate in celebrations of the oldest continuous living culture on earth.
The theme for 2022 is “Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!”. The week is all about each of us making a genuine commitment to move beyond just acknowledgement and truly make change.
Here are a few of the ways in which we’re dedicated to making a difference and striving for reconciliation.
- We established our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network, Yarn’n Circle in June 2020, providing a safe space to connect and share information. This has resulted in initiatives such as our NAIDOC Leave policy for First Nations staff.
- We continue to be passionate about supplier diversity, accessing products through First Nations suppliers such as Nallawilli Officewears. We also work with organisations who actively support and recruit an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.
- We are proud of the projects we have been involved with, such as the Pathways Project in collaboration with Girudala Cooperative in Bowen; our Murri Court Partnership with the NDIA; and our elder engagement with Janandi Aboriginal Cooperate in the Dja Dja Wurrung community,
- We will soon launch our Reconciliation Action Plan, which has conditional endorsement from Reconciliation Australia. We’re looking forward to implementing our RAP across all services lines, collaborating and partnering with local First Nation communities to ensure our RAP considers the unique and diverse needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities we serve.
- We have committed to providing each of our team members with cultural awareness training opportunities, ensuring each of us has the opportunity to learn more about our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and are in a position to truly become allies.
We invite you to “Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!”
Within our organisation, we have been reviewing the NAIDOC History Timeline and displaying the NAIDOC Week poster. Both can be found via the NAIDOC Week website here.
We have been privileged, over the years, to feature many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and trailblazers.
We’re proud to share the following with you to watch, listen to and read this NAIDOC Week.
- This story and podcast from Renay Barker-Mulholland on life as a First Nations woman with a disability.
- Our Fearless film featuring Wiradjuri woman Bev Lipscomb, who was part of the stolen generation.
- Our podcast featuring Wotjobaluk Elder Uncle Kevin, recipient of an Order of Australia medal.
