What is the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme is a new way of providing disability support and takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life. For many people, it will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. To learn more about the NDIS you can watch the video below.
-
How will I benefit under the NDIS scheme?
The NDIS is all about listening and learning about your needs so you can be connected to the appropriate support services and have better access to the community you live in. To learn more about the benefits of the NDIS you can watch the video below.
-
How do I find out if I am eligible to access the NDIS?
You will need to provide information about yourself to help the NDIA make a decision about your eligibility for the NDIS. This is called an Access Request. You can also give permission for someone you trust to provide information on your behalf:
You will be asked to provide the following:
- your name, age, where you live and whether you have permission to live in Australia permanently
- evidence of your age and residence
- details and evidence of your disability and how it impacts on your day to day life
- current and/or relevant reports you already have, medical specialists or allied health professionals
- whether you give permission for the NDIA to talk to other people about your disability, including Centrelink, your GP or a person providing support to you
To learn more about accessing the NDIS you can watch the video below.
-
How do I make an access request?
If you are aged between 7 and 65 you may be eligible for the NDIS. A Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can assist you to initiate your Access Request. An Access Request can be started over the phone by calling Feros Care on 1300 986 970 or by calling the NDIA on 1800 800 110 between 8.30am – 4.30pm.
For children aged 0-6 the same process will apply, however, through Early Childhood, Early Intervention (ECEI). If your child has longer-term support needs, an ECEI coordinator will help your child apply for the NDIS.
-
How do I gather evidence of my disability?
The NDIS website provides information on the types of evidence required at the following link
LACs will assist you with understanding the process, providing you with information and answering your enquiries but cannot complete the Access Request Form or collect evidence on your behalf.
-
What is a Local Area Coordinator (LAC)?
Feros Care has partnered with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to help people with disability live healthy, fulfilling and connected lives. A Local Area Coordinator will work with you to understand what is important to you and connect you to the services that will support you to live the life you want. Your support services are tailored to meet your goals and improve your overall wellbeing.
-
How can a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) help me?
Local Area Coordinators are available to:
- answer any of your questions and provide you with information about the NDIS
- support you to connect with the NDIS over the phone to lodge a Verbal Access Request (VAR)
- provide you with an Access Request Form if you haven’t contacted the NDIS over the phone
- give you guidance on completing the Access Request Form and explain what evidence you will need to provide to the NDIA along with your Access Request Form
- every Friday Feros Care has a drop in centre called Feros Fridays where you can call into the office and ask questions.
-
I have communication difficulties. How can Feros Care help me?
Feros Care Local Area Coordinators are provided with your information once access requests are approved by the NDIA. If you have communication difficulties this will be noted in your file and your Local Area Coordinator will make arrangements to have appropriate supports, interpreters, communication aides and carers available for you in your meetings.
